Cable Systems
Digital Basics for Cable Television Systems by Jeffrey L. Thomas, Make the transition to digital CATV: the complete, easy-to-read guide! Cable TV is rapidly moving from the familiar world of analog signals to a new digital world where yesterday's rules for optimizing performance no longer apply. If you install, upgrade, or maintain digital or mixed digital/analog systems, Digital Basics for Cable Television Systems is your complete guide to this new world. Friendly and authoritative, it's all you need to know to deliver digital services with maximum quality and reliability. Simple fundamentals of digital signals and transport. How digital signals differ from analog signals. Complete coverage of digital testing and proof-of-performance. Key digital measurement techniques, including the use of a spectrum analyzer. Digital signal composition features, such as adaptive equalization, error correction, and compression. With this book's simple illustrations, definitions and examples, you'll find it easy to master key digital CATV concepts such as layering, modulation and multiplexing. You'll learn how to measure digital signal power and burst power, and the impact of distortion, noise and interference on digital signals. Digital Basics for Cable Television Systems is also a great reference, with a convenient glossary of digital terminology, a performance measurement map, a test equipment survey, exercises with answers, and much more. Whether you're a technician or an engineer, this book will help you maximize your digital system's performance - and your own.
Modern Cable Television Technology: Video, Voice, and Data Communications Fully updated, revised, and expanded, this second edition of Modern Cable Television Technology addresses the significant changes undergone by cable since 1999--including, most notably, its continued transformation from a system for delivery of television to a scalable-bandwidth platform for a broad range of communication services. It provides in-depth coverage of high speed data transmission, home networking, IP-based voice, optical dense wavelength division multiplexing, new video compression techniques, integrated voice/video/data transport, and much more. Intended as a day-to-day reference for cable engineers, this book illuminates all the technologies involved in building and maintaining a cable system. But it's also a great study guide for candidates for SCTE certification, and its careful explanations will benefit any technician whose work involves connecting to a cable system or building products that consume cable services.
Cable car - A cable car is any of a variety of transportation systems relying on cables to pull vehicles along or lower them at a steady rate, or a vehicle on these systems. These include: WHKY-TV - WHKY-TV is an independent television station based out of Hickory, North Carolina. It broadcasts on UHF channel 14 (analog) and channel 40 (digital), and is seen on cable channel 7 on Charter Communications cable systems and channel 18 on Time Warner Cable systems in the Charlotte area. Access Television Network - Access Television Network (ATN) distributes infomercials and other paid programming through about 300 cable television systems airing in more than 35 million households. ATN's around-the-clock digital satellite feeds are generally broadcast by cable systems on existing channels during the early morning hours when no regular programming is scheduled. TCM & Cartoon Network - TCM & Cartoon Network is an European satellite channel that airs TCM from 21:00 CET to 06:00 CET and Cartoon Network Europe in the remaining time, mainly for analogue cable systems across Europe, although it was originally targeted at the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. It was formerly free-to-air, but is now carried encrypted and provided only to cable companies and on some commercial satellite systems.
